More than 32,000 people from the care, social welfare and socio-cultural sectors, from all over the country, took to the streets of Brussels to demand better pay, better working conditions and new colleagues.

The care sector was present en masse. Their message: ‘We can't wait any longer’. Everywhere, there is a shortage of manpower, the workload is becoming unsustainable and the quality of care is under pressure.

The current government is leaving the non-profit sector in the lurch, and the plans of Bart De Wever ( N-VA (Flemish right-nationalists) ) and company for the next government (Arizona) augur the worst: even more flexibility for even fewer pensions.

The non-profit sector demands respect. Not just in words, but also in deeds. It's high time to put in place an investment plan for the workforce, to make work feasible again and the sector attractive again.
